Every year, Incline Elementary School raises money to fund its Physical Education (PE) program with a Jog-a-Thon. On September 27, 2013 the children will be jogging for 30 minutes to show their enthusiasm for the upcoming year’s PE classes.
Sadly, the Washoe County School District does not supply any money for exercise and sportsmanship instruction in elementary school. The IES PTA feels that this leaves a big hole in our children’s education, and it is our duty to fill it. An instructor led PE program is important because it gives our students the opportunity to learn how to be active, and informs them of the benefits of a lifestyle that includes fitness. We think it is critical that the skills for performing safe and fun physical activity are taught, especially at a young age.
In order to reach our goal of $70,000 to fund our PE program, we start with our families. This year we are asking every student to collect $170 as their contribution to PE classes for the year ahead. This is a high expectation, but we hope that we get a sincere effort from all of our students and their families. We also reach out to our local community for sponsorship. We need the generosity of corporate sponsors to raise enough money to help our 400+ children at IES, so we send out a letter to over 150 local businesses asking for their support.
Please contribute to your child’s K-5 education! There are many ways to donate.
All of the children receive an envelope to collect donations throughout the month of September. The money from the folders will be collected daily to gauge how much closer we get to our goal each day. The children also receive sponsorship mailers that can be sent out to extended family and friends with a personal message asking for support.
Checks may written payable to IES-PTA and either be given to the students for their folders or sent to: IES PTA, 915 Northwood Blvd., Incline Village, NV 89451.
